Our ingredients are sourced from certified suppliers. We don’t rely solely on naturals (Lavender, Rose Absolute, Ho Wood, and the like); we also utilize synthesized molecules—singular, isolated compounds.

These molecules are often identical to those found in nature, but they offer the luxury of precision. They allow us to choose exactly which facets of a scent to highlight: the lavender without the "spikiness"; the clementine without the "sparkle" (to keep it reserved); the dried weeds without the fermentation. The same logic applies to every notes you can think of. Jasmin, Leather, Rose, iris, Neroli, Cedarwood, Sandalwood and so on. Put some of these together and you recreate the scent of the ocean (aquatic, salty, seaweeds).

Technically speaking, with enough time, one could use these molecules to reconstruct a rose that smells, to the human nose, identical to a Rose Absolute. Again, technically speaking.

Don't let their names or the word "Synthetic" scare you.

Can anybody truly say that they know who they are?

On a less philosophical note, we are a very small niche perfume house based in Montréal, Québec. Samuel, the nose of La Lacune, had this idea for a perfume house that he thought was absent from the market: a grounded perfume house which bases its designs and formulations on data and minimalistic inspirations. The website which is probably more a tech demo than a simple website does contradict the minimalist impression we wanted, but its simplicity does make up for it.

Essentially, we are not trying to reinvent the wheel.

Perfumes, or at least the concept of applying a fragrance to your body, have been around for thousands of years. The reasons for it have slightly changed through time, but the concept is still the same. You build a routine around it. You make your own ritual. You hope your date or whoever you'll meet will appreciate the effort or, at least, your sense of style and individuality. Maybe you only do it for yourself, smelling your wrists throughout the day, taking notes on how your scent changes, appreciating how this little side of you evolved as the day goes by.

Perfumes can be as personal as they can be shared with others.

La Lacune simply hopes to provide you with the personal experience that you seek, and we expect you to appropriate the scent for yourself. Deal with it as you like; the scent can and should be part of who you are.

After all, you chose it.
